7 Reasons Bamboo is a better alternative than Cotton

Posted by Mike Yuen on

1. Softer than Cotton
Viscose from bamboo has been compared to some of the most luxurious fabrics like Egyptian cotton but costs less. Another plus to this soft material is that it is also hypo-allergenic and can be worn by anyone without causing any allergic reactions or skin irritation whereas that is not the case for cotton.
2. More grounded than Cotton
It is no secret that bamboo is one of the strongest fabrics to wear. Bamboo will outlast cotton in strength, keeping shape, and durability multiple times when cared for appropriately. Bamboo materials also require less washing than most cotton which also plays a part in the life cycle of a clothing piece. On top of this, the bamboo fibers require less dye than cotton for coloration and are noted to keep their bright colors significantly longer.
3. Bamboo is More Breathable and Absorbent than Cotton
Bamboo is 40% more absorbent than even the finest organic cotton, wicking moisture away from the skin much faster and keeping you dry and comfortable much easier. Bamboo can take in 3 times more water than its weight which means that it also is able to get rid of sweat faster.
Our bodies sweat and sometimes this can become embarrassing, irritating, or just uncomfortable when wearing a material that won’t absorb moisture quickly.
4. Bamboo Smells Better and Stays Cleaner
One of the most amazing properties of bamboo itself is that it has antimicrobial properties referred to as “Bamboo Kun”. These antimicrobial bio-agents help reduce bacteria that thrive on clothing.
5. Bamboo fabric has natural thermo-regulating capabilities
It will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The hollow bamboo fibers are naturally cooling, breathable, and well ventilated
6. Eco - Friendly: Bamboo Uses one/third less Water to Grow
Bamboo requires no water system requiring one/third the amount of water to grow than is necessary for cotton. Bamboo has always been a self-sufficient yield that needs no water system and uses water considerably more effectively than cotton. It is fabricated with high eco-standards and reuses water to minimize waste.
7. Bamboo is a self replenishing Resource
The miracle of bamboo is that it will sprout on its own. Bamboo never needs replanting. Cotton needs harvesting and re-planting every year. One acre of bamboo will yield ten times more than cotton.
A few types of bamboo can grow up to 4 feet per day and can be fully harvestable within 3-4 years.
